Our Herd

Texas Longhorn cattle grazing in a grassy pasture beneath a cloudy blue sky

Our Registered Texas Longhorns are part of our family, so while they have official names, they also have names that they know. See below for some fun (and funny) facts about them!

Josephine — She was Gertie & Leroy’s first calf. With age, she has become more friendly, but she is also ok to stay back a bit unless she is in the mood to be scratched. Her favorite snack is sneaking some commodity mix feed when there is some available.

Denali — She was also in our first group of Registered Longhorns back in 2021. She is from Hoosier Longhorns. Over time, she has not gotten nearly as friendly as Gertie. However, like everyone else, she enjoys being hand fed produce from the garden.

Gertrude — To know Gertie is to love her. She was in the original group when we got into Registered Longhorns. She knows her name, and she can spot a juicy tomato from the garden a mile away. She loves to be hand fed treats — the juicer, the better! She’s just like any other pet though, as she doesn’t always respect your personal space.

Mable - She came from Dickinson Cattle Company a few years ago. She is content with staying back and doing her own thing. However, a favorite treat of hers is also sneaking commodity mix feed when it is available.

Leroy — He is the first Registered Longhorn bull that we have had on our farm, and he is a gentle giant. He came from Dickinson Cattle Company, and we have had him since he was weaned in 2022. He’s created some really nice looking cows. He’s friendly, but not too friendly, and he certainly grabs attention from passersby.
